MMA Fighters Workout For Strength

Having the strength to lift and throw your opponent is a given in MMA. However upper body strength is also required for ground work and delivering powerful punches.

Although using free weights is a big part of mixed martial arts strength training, you should not stick to this method exclusively. Using other objects which are relatively difficult to handle, and require the use of your whole body should be an important part of your strength workouts.

Tire Flipping For Strength

Many fighters use tractor tires in their training. These tires are large and very heavy, and are an excellent source for building all round body strength. It is an exercise that should be used regularly in an MMA fighters workout.

This exercise ensures that you use your lower body significantly, and also requires the use of your shoulder muscles, along with your biceps. The positions that you will find yourself in during tire flipping, mimic many of the positions that you will take during a fight.

Sandbag Training

This is an old method which was regularly used by strongmen many years ago. It is not a complicated exercise, but it builds great strength and really conditions your body.

All you need to do is to get yourself a heavy sandbag and lift it from the floor and onto one of your shoulders. You then move it back to the floor and repeat the movement for your other shoulder.

A simple MMA exercise on the face of it, but do this for a few minutes and you will understand how difficult it will become.

There are other things that you could use to build functional strength. Logs or barrels are also a great way of getting stronger. As long as the object is heavy and challenging to hold and balance, it will improve strength in many areas of your body.

Your MMA conditioning training requires that you try to perform your exercises without any rest in between. This method of mixed martial arts training is extremely challenging, but you will face the same challenge during an MMA fight.
