Weight training is an important aspect of any MMA exercise routine. Fighting
comprises of various things, and all of them are important for success. You may have the right technique, good

Another commonly used MMA training exercise by MMA practitioners
are the limb weights - attaching bags of weight on your hands and feet. The idea is that once you get used to
hitting good with those things on yourself, when you remove them your hits will be much stronger and efficient.
However, this exercise has the disadvantage of tiring you very quickly, so you'll need to perform it in small
sessions in order to prevent excessive physical strain. Also, keep in mind that you'll need to slightly adjust to
your lighter hands and feet after removing the bags for the first time.
Why do most people in MMA for weight training exercises though? They
consider this to be the best way to power up your hits. This is not completely true. A not so well known fact
is that hit power comes mainly from your mind, and not from your physical strength. You need to be properly
adjusted in your mind in order to be able to strike heavy punches.
One of the best ways to train this is as follows: take a newspaper page, and get someone to hold it for you. The
person needs to hold it with their two hands at the top, so that the page is hanging freely. Then you punch the
page. The goal is to penetrate the paper without tearing on it - your punch needs to go straight through the paper.
If you manage to achieve that, you'll be able to strike really heavy punches.
Physical strength will always be useful though, so don't disregard it - with strong muscles, you'll be able to
take more hits before you're exhausted, and you'll thus have the upper hand against weaker opponents most of the
